TRANSLATING NEUROPSYCHOLOGY INTO PAEDIATRIC PRACTICE

This Symposium was a comprehensive session on various arenas of Neuropsychology. The sessions began with welcome note from Ms. Harsha Mohta (Psychologist). Experts in the field of Paediatric Neurology and Neurosurgery shed light on the many different ways Neuropsychology is a pillar in their practice. Esteemed speakers like Dr Anaita Hedge, Dr Pradnya Gadgil, Dr Sonal Garg-Parekh and Dr Saurav Samantray walked the audience through their fields of Paediatric Neurology, Epilepsy Specific Neurology, Radiology and Neurosurgery. After an enlightening and learning filled first-half, the symposium held extensive sessions about Neuropsychology as a field on its own. – Dr Urvashi Shah, a pioneer in the field explained what it meant to be a Neuropsychologist and what are the principles that come with it. There were also sessions by inhouse speakers (Anita Chitre, Priyanka Hembrom, Janvi Sanghavi, Mohit Narsinghani) on IQ testing, socio-adaptive functioning and comorbidities in a Neurodevelopmental context and how can one come to a greater understanding and interpretation of it as practitioners in the field of Psychology. Case presentation for multidisciplinary approach was conducted by Dr Sayali Kalzunkar, Dr Shalini Gaikwad and Kirti Rai. Symposium was filled with many real-life case studies, cognitive rehabilitation and rehabilitation and a multidisciplinary approach to Neuropsychology.
There was total 27 participants from different rehabilitation areas. The audience thoroughly enjoyed the symposium as was noticed by the feedback form provided to them. Around 80% of them said the symposium was excellent and extremely insightful, making them aware of the steep learning curve of this field. They also suggested more workshops, events and symposium ensuring a more detailed learning of each session discussed. Overall, the symposium was a great success.
