Date: May 11 to 15, 2026
Venue: SRCC Centre for Child Development
The Occupational Therapy team of SRCC Centre for Child Development’s Rehabilitation Department successfully conducted a 5-day Fine Motor and Handwriting Readiness Summer Program from 11th to 15th May 2026. The program was specially designed to support children in developing the foundational skills required for handwriting, classroom participation, and overall school readiness. A total of 7 children participated in the program, engaging enthusiastically in a variety of structured and interactive activities throughout the week. The camp was conducted in a small-group setting, with each session lasting one hour daily and facilitated by two Occupational Therapists along with a therapy aide. The small group format allowed for individualized attention and tailored support, ensuring that each child could participate comfortably and progress at their own pace within a positive and encouraging environment. Throughout the program, children participated in a wide range of engaging activities including movement-based exercises, fine motor games, sensory play, and guided handwriting tasks. These activities were thoughtfully planned to strengthen essential developmental skills such as pencil grip, hand strength, bilateral coordination, cutting skills, visual-motor integration, attention, sitting tolerance, and early writing control. The sessions combined structured learning with playful experiences, making skill development both meaningful and enjoyable for the children. One of the highlights of the program was witnessing the children’s growing confidence and participation over the five days. Many children demonstrated increased independence in table-top activities, improved focus and coordination, and greater willingness to engage in new challenges. The supportive environment encouraged active participation and helped children build important skills while enjoying positive interactions with their peers. The program received encouraging feedback from parents, who appreciated the individualized approach and observed positive changes in their children’s engagement and readiness skills. Overall, the Fine Motor and Handwriting Readiness Summer Program provided an enriching and enjoyable experience, helping children strengthen key school-readiness abilities while fostering confidence, independence, and a love for learning.
